A clever police dog in Florida named Zip is making waves by predicting hurricanes. Zip, a German Shepherd, has successfully forecasted 8 out of 10 hurricanes, often more quickly than meteorologists can analyze satellite data.
Animals, like Zip, often sense natural disasters before humans do. Birds change their flight paths before earthquakes, and elephants head for higher ground before tsunamis.
Zip’s talent shows how animals can be valuable in warning us about dangerous situations. “With Zip’s help, communities can be safer when hurricanes approach,” said Director of the National Hurricane Center, Michael Brennan. |
