Sheep Power
In the early 1990s, a small farming town in New Zealand decided it could help solve the energy crisis—by turning sheep into power generators. Local engineer Liam McLeod proposed that if sheep walked on specially built treadmills, their kinetic energy could produce electricity for the whole town.

Liam built a “sheep gym” in a barn, complete with running tracks, treadmills, and motivational posters reading, “Go, Woolly Warriors!” He then rallied other sheep farmers to join the cause, promising “clean, wool-powered energy,” and recruited volunteers to help train the sheep.

After six months, the experiment ended when the sheep refused to run, preferring to nap and graze instead. Liam admitted defeat and concluded that humans might be better at generating electricity than sheep.
