Almost 50 years ago, when the first humans landed on the moon, they brought back valuable scientific data, lunar rocks and soil. But they also left several things behind: Neil Armstrong’s iconic footprint, the American flag, and about 96 bags of human waste.
Now, NASA wants to return to the moon to retrieve decades-old human feces and study it for signs of life.
If the waste bags are tightly packed and intact, there’s a chance something might have survived. Studying the waste could provide insight about life in space and help humans prepare for long-term lunar missions. |
