| In 1965, 19-year-old Brian Robson, a Welshman working in Australia, made international headlines after he attempted to mail himself home to the UK in a wooden crate. Homesick and unable to afford airfare, Robson convinced two friends to seal him inside a 36 × 30 × 38-inch box and mail it to London. Supplies in the crate included: a hammer, a suitcase, a pillow, a liter of water, a flashlight, a book of Beatles songs, and an empty bottle.
The journey was meant to take 36 hours, but it turned into a four-day ordeal after delays and a wrong flight routing. During that time, he was trapped without food, water, or fresh air. Eventually, airport workers in Los Angeles discovered him. Robson has written a book about his experience called The Crate Escape. |
