A couple in South Korea damaged a painting on display at the Lotte World Mall. CCTV footage shows the couple painting on top of the artwork. The couple said that they had thought they were allowed to paint on the piece as “participatory art”.
JonOne, an American graffiti artist, created the artwork in 2016 in front of an audience in Seoul. Paint cans and brushes were left on the ground in front of the painting and are considered part of the artwork. After the incident the gallery put up a wire fence and additional signs saying “Do Not Touch”.
